Wisconsin CWD Watch Discussion Forum

Welcome to the new CWD Watch Journal. Readers of the Wisconsin CWD Watch website will undoubtedly be aware there are decided "positions" taken on a number of issues related to Chronic Wasting Disease and in particular the manner in which the Wisconsin DNR has responded to the discovery of the disease among some of Wisconsin whitetail deer.

In Wisconsin, news reporting on CWD has been filtered and managed to greatly narrow the range of information available to the public. The purpose of this blog is to broaden the CWD discussion to allow consideration of alternative theories, models, and approaches to confronting this disease. The observers posting on this forum offer information gleaned from a variety of sources - internet news reporting, scientific and technical journals, collegial associations with natural resources professionals, and contacts with people who are directly affected by CWD and its response by the natural resources bureaucracy in Wisconsin.

Citizen Letter to Wisconsin Ag Dept Director & State Veterinarian

Just received a copy of a letter sent by the President of Voices of Wisconsin to Dept of Ag on the CWD situation. Click here to download the entire letter.

An excerpt: "We are all aware of the fast approaching $20,000,000 dollars that the WDNR has spent on the past two year’s eradication attempts. They have proved that the incidence rate of CWD (even in a dense deer population as the eradication zone) is consistent with the world-wide incidence rate of less than 2%, in fact our number here in Wisconsin is less than 1% incidence. Other than that, the WDNR have not shown the public a single thing learned."

No News is Not Good News

Jim W from Colorado writes that we ought not applaud how the Wildlife bureaucracy in his state is handling CWD testing:

“My friend Bill . . . shot a deer near the Wyoming border. I helped Bill collect the RP lymph nodes for testing. We took the samples to the CDOW offices at Fort Collins. After 3-1/2 weeks, the CDOW website still showed the results as ‘PENDING’. Only after calling the CDOW's wildlife disease coordinator in Denver and complaining about the delay did Bill finally get his results: Positive. We were later told by the CDOW that positive results are never posted to their website”

As in Wisconsin, the agency wants plenty of time to massage the data before releasing positive results!!
